Sophie's Testimonial
Even though I know birth is a natural physiological event, one that I have already experienced, I was still pretty nervous second time around. But the care I received from my independent midwives meant I could relax and let my body do what it needed to.
Their care was nowhere near comparable to standard NHS care. When my antenatal appointments with my midwives began it was like breathing a sigh of relief. At each ante- and post-natal appointment they were genuinely interested in how my baby and I were, and spent time discussing any concerns or worries I had.
Without their care, I would have been very worried about the possibility of going into hospital and, in effect, handing over control of my birth to the staff there. But having the support of my lovely midwives made me feel infinitely more at ease. Luckily I didn’t have to go to hospital as I had a relaxed and calm water birth at home. My midwives were fantastic. They came round as soon as I felt I needed them. NHS midwives would have had no choice but to check how dilated I was at this stage (probably not much!) and leave, as they simply would have been too busy to stay. But my midwives stayed with me through the night. I can’t describe how comforting it was to have had their support and expertise. They respected every wish in my birth plan, gave me such encouragement when I needed it, and I always felt in control. With their help, I was able to have the birth I had wished for. Both my husband and I feel it really was money well spent. I just can’t imagine giving birth without them.
